Raj Reddy was an Indian computer scientist. He was born on June 13, 1937, in a small village near the Indian city of Chennai. Reddy had an extensive education receiving a Bachelor's degree at Gundy College, a Master's at the University of New South Wales, and one at Stanford University. He also received a Doctorate from Stanford University. He has received many prestigious awards in his lifetime, including and not limited to, The Okawa Prize, The Honda Prize, and The Turing Prize. The Turing Prize is the most prestigious award in Computer Science. Reddy won this award for his contribution to Ai, specifically a continuous speech recognition, similar to Siri and Cortana. He also contributed to the fields of Human-Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics. His main contribution to the Robotics field was by founding Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute. Also, he was the dean of the university's Computer Science department. In his home country of India, he helped poor, gifted kids in rural India receive a quality education, and help them learn about computer science. One very interesting fact about Reddy is that he was the founding member of the International Board of Governors of Peres Center for Peace in Isreal.
